Are Your Motives Pure? Raymond Pettibon Surfers 1985-2013
Venus Over Manhattan - New York, NY
New York City gallery Venus Over Manhattan is showing a 40-piece collection of Los Angeles-based artist Raymond Pettibon’s surfer paintings, which span 25 years. The exhibit includes small India ink paintings from early in the artist’s career, a variety of his color works from the 1990s, and rare large-scale paintings, some of which are almost 10 feet wide. Nearly all of the paintings in the exhibit feature large, rolling waves with quotes, poetry and other writings in the artist’s hand. Running until May 17, even if you’re not a surfer, you’ll be able to appreciate the beauty of the artwork shown in this exhibit celebrating the aquatic board sport.
