Yusuke Asai: yamatane
Rice Gallery - Houston, TX
Japanese artist Yusuke Asai has created an installation at the Rice University Art Gallery. Instead of using traditional materials, she uses dirt as her paint because you can find it anywhere in the world, and she doesn’t plan out her work before she starts creating it, painting the figures and creatures that come to her mind in the moment. For her yamatane installation, she used 27 shades of dirt she found in Texas, primarily in Houston, that Rice students, volunteers, and gallery staff helped her gather. Make sure to check out this eclectic work of art before November 23, when it closes to the public.
