In terms of local favorites, Underbelly is at the top of the food chain. We’ll give that credit to the restaurant’s head chef and storyteller, Chris Shepherd. By using the city itself as inspiration for some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, Shepherd was able to give Houston residents a genuine taste of home and provide tourists passing by with a menu they won’t find anywhere else in the world. The Seared Gulf White Shrimp seems to be the premier choice on the lunch menu, while the Korean Braised Goat and Dumplings will seem to have you instantly hooked. However, it’s safe to say that no matter what you get, you’ll end up tasting the Southern Creole cuisine flavor that has become the city’s trademark.
