6. J Dilla

There’s a reason why J Dilla is revered as not only as a Detroit hero, but also as a hip-hop legend. Having produced for Common, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, and countless Detroit acts, Jay Dee was loved not only by fans, but also emcees and other producers. Dilla had a career as an emcee, releasing various albums as a solo artist and a number of them as a member of Slum Village. Dilla’s production and rhymes live on to this day.
