1. Debbie Downer - SNL
Everyone knows a Debbie Downer, the person who says something that totally sinks the mood at a social gathering where spirits are high. When Saturday Night Live’s Rachel Dratch debuted her Debbie Downer character, the show had an immediate win on its hands. Over the years, SNL’s writers put the sullen Debbie in all sorts of situations from a trip to Disneyland to a Thanksgiving dinner, all of which offered her the opportunity to remind her companions of things like the threat of mad cow disease or the perils of the dating scene. After her sad declaration came the camera zoom on her pained facial expression. This character is classic.
