TurboGrafx-16 (1989)

Aiming high, yet falling hard, the TurboGrafx-16 stood out as the first “real” 16-bit console, one that visually buried the 8-bit generation and placed both Nintendo and Sega on notice heading into the next gaming generation. Titles like Bonk’s Adventure, Legendary Axe, Splatterhouse and Vigilante solidified its hardcore mass appeal. However, the silliest imperfections from an absent second controller port to misleading artwork for games only attributed to its demise. Presentation is still everything.
