Rodney Smith

With an aesthetic that was completely unique to New York City, incorporating distinctive shapes and graffiti-influenced graphics, Rodney Smith’s Shut Skateboards gave the industry an East Coast uppercut when it debuted in 1986. It was the first company to really encapsulate East Coast skating with a focus on the rapidly progressing street skating scene and a new visual language. Smith later disbanded Shut, creating Zoo York with Eli Morgan Gesner and Adam Schatz, before selling the brand to Ecko Unlimited, and then resurrected Shut in 2006.
