Guerra de la Paz - “Canopy”

Guerra de la Paz is a Cuban born artist duo now living and working in Miami comprised of Alain Guerra and Neraldo de la Paz, who use discarded clothing to create their large-scale sculptures. They were inspired to use garments as a medium after rummaging through the garbage of second-hand goods shipping companies in the Little Haiti neighborhood of Miami. In some cases they create standing figures out of the clothing like there is an invisible person inside the pieces of attire, while in others, they hang a ton of garments from the ceiling of a gallery space or heap them in a structural way. We particularly like the giant tree they created in 2006 using different shades of brown and green clothing called “Canopy.”
