Susie MacMurray - “A Mixture of Frailties”

Using 1,400 rubber gloves, Susie MacMurray constructed a 6-foot tall gown that looks like a wedding dress that spills out onto the floor into a large circle. The British artist turned ordinary dishwashing gloves inside out to expose their white interiors, and used a tailor’s mannequin to put the dress together. The sculpture provided commentary on women’s domestic labor by taking these everyday cleaning supplies and creating a female form out of them.
