Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill
Setting a precedent for Vanilla Ice and Eminem to be scrutinized by some while embraced by others, the Beastie Boys were the first large white rap act. Spreading like wildfire, Licensed to Ill immediately made them icons due to their carefree party anthems that were a hit on the college scene. Hits like “Fight for Your Right,” “Paul Revere,” and “Brass Monkey” reportedly had them achieving platinum status within months, and Licensed to Ill was the first rap LP to top the Billboard charts. Anyone without a curfew in the late ‘80s will surely remember the Beastie Boys arrival on the scene.
