Minor Threat - "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone"

When the short-lived D.C.-based band Minor Threat decided to cover “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone,” they put their signature sound on it, which was one that had influenced several other hardcore punk bands in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Their version of the song, which was originally by Paul Revere & the Raiders and made famous by ‘60s pop rock band The Monkees, was actually fairly similar to the original. However, in typical Minor Threat style, the rhythm was sped up and the melodic vocals once sung by Davy Jones of The Monkees were transformed into the screamed lyrics of frontman Ian MacKaye. We think the punk rock twist was exactly what the song needed.
