5. California: FTC
California has more dope skate shops than anywhere in the world, but only one has had a book written about it, or produced three seminal ’90s skate videos. That shop of course is FTC, in San Francisco. Born in the ’80s at the back of a ski shop, and rising to prominence in in the ’90s, FTC supported a who’s-who of San Francisco’s changing guard and of course, the EMB crew.
Today, FTC is the go-to shop in SF for all the cool brands and it plays host to the annual For The Cash contest. To this day, FTC supports the city’s up and coming skaters as well as the hottest pros—few shops can count Dave Chappelle and Mike Carroll as supporters, but FTC can.
