While recording his debut album, a then-unknown Swizz Beatz submitted the “Ruff Ryders Anthem” beat for DMX, and X didn’t want to include it on the project. Why? The way Swizz tells it, X didn’t want to rap over something he felt sounded so rock-oriented. Luckily, X’s team convinced him to keep the track, which helped make his debut a major hit.
