2. Converse

By the late ‘70s and early ’80s, skating had cross-pollinated with the emerging punk scene, and Converse’s Chuck Taylor All Stars became a skate staple. While they looked good, they were also functional. Their high-top design offered much needed support, and their rubber soles like the ones on Vans gripped boards well. As a result, a ton of skaters still swear by them.
