8. Ice Cube vs. N.W.A.
Being the first to leave N.W.A. made Ice Cube subject to all sorts of scorn and disdain. Taking him to task on their sophomore album, Efil4zaggin, he was publicly branded as a traitor by the same crew he came up with. Cube retaliated with “No Vaseline,” one of hip-hop’s most explosive and explicit battle songs. Accusing his past partners of being exploited by label executive and manager Jerry Heller, he pulled absolutely no punches with each lethal rebuttal. This war of words made it clear that Ice Cube’s patience wasn’t to be tried.
