A-Trak’s “Out The Speakers” Is Still Making Noise
While we’re not the type of people who watch the Super Bowl just for the commercials, we know a good spot when we see one. And what makes it memorable for us? The music. Following the debut of Mtn Dew’s latest Kickstart ad on Super Bowl Sunday, A-Trak, and Milo & Otis saw their song “Out The Speakers,” featuring Rich Kidz, reach the top 10 for the first time on Billboard’s “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs” and “Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs” charts for the first time. Not bad for a track that’s been out since May.
Now with over 5.8 million views on YouTube, the ad featuring “Out The Speakers” has become a viral sensation due in part to the uncanny dance moves of the “Dew Brothers” and YouTube star Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval. This formula isn’t as new (or as random) as it may seem. In the past, many artists have seen a resurgence in sales—or even had their career debuts skyrocket—as the result of being featured in a commercial. The right song at the right time is the difference between a hit single and a classic. With this spot debuting during the Super Bowl (115 million viewers) and re-airing during the Grammys (25 million viewers), it was the perfect storm for success.
Props to A-Trak for crafting such an ill tune, and remember: It all starts with a kick.
