8. Giant Rubber Duck by Florentijn Hofman
Ernie wasn’t the only one in love with his rubber ducky growing up. For some of us, bath time wasn’t complete if the plastic floating toy wasn’t within reach. For Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, the memories were so great that he wanted to share them with the entire world with a series of gigantic rubber duck figures. Hofman created over a dozen of these to float around the world with the biggest one measuring out at 85 by 66 by 105 feet making it the largest rubber duck sculpture in the world. Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Belgium are just some of the locations to be visited by the Giant Rubber Duck. When it finally came stateside, Pittsburgh was the only place it passed through. As a result, it brought over a million visitors to the city just so they could get a glimpse of the oversized childhood toy.
