Behind the Scenes on the Chance the Rapper X Lil B Mixtape

Chicago‘s SoundScape Studios is legendary for many reasons. It’s not only home to clients like Curren$y, Vic Mensa, and No ID, but it’s also the birthplace of Free, the collaborative mixtape from Chance the Rapper and Lil B. The project posed a ton of questions within the hip-hop community, as the pairing was curious, the announcement was unexpected, and few, ambitious details were given about the album.

Jeff Arenson, resident producer and engineer at SoundScape, not only witnessed the rareness, but also aided in the project’s genesis. He recently hopped on Reddit to shed light on the process and the partnership; here’s what we learned.
