The Future of Camo

Camouflage as we know it is barely 100 years old, and yet it is one of the most significant and prevalent patterns in design, art, fashion, and lifestyle.

The Fine Print tells this story across three episodes: Function & Fashion, Style & Art, and Future, and features guests such as Angel "NA" Nieves (Camo Season), Akira Mowatt (After Midnight), Ray Mate, Michael MEGA Yabut (Black Scale), RB Umali (Zoo York), Stash (graffiti writer), Trina Merry (bodypainter), Lieutenant Colonel Tim O'Neill PhD ("the father of digital camo"), Hyperstealth Technologies, and more.

Both MTN DEW and camouflage hold unique positions at the cross-section between the rural heartland and urban street-wear cultures. For the inaugural ComplexCon in 2016, MTN DEW created The Camo Collective, an unprecedented exhibit that immersed visitors in the world of camouflage, and partnered with VFILES for the wearable tech collaboration CAMOOUT, available for the first time to the public.

Camouflage as we know it is barely 100 years old, and yet it is one of the most significant and prevalent patterns in design, art, fashion, and lifestyle. Both MTN DEW and camouflage hold unique positions at the cross-section between the rural heartland and urban street-wear cultures. The Camo Collective is an unprecedented exhibit that will completely immerse you in the world of camouflage to tell the story of the pattern’s evolution from a utilitarian staple into a mainstream icon.

To tell this story, designer Jules Gayton has curated a gallery of camouflage objects covering Function, Fashion and Future. The gallery features custom artwork and designs by graffiti artist Stash, and digital artwork from Damien Gilley and Michael Walczyk. Each step of the gallery features a custom mix by record producer Nosaj Thing, ending with a final track created exclusively for The Camo Collective. The future of camouflage will be demonstrated through a real-life cloaking device, augmented reality decoding, and the debut of CamoFlector technology.

The culmination of the entire experience ends in the VFILES pop-up shop, featuring the VFILES + Dew wearable tech collaboration CAMOOUT, available for the first time to the public. Each piece in the collection is complemented with the latest in wearable technology from track suits and jackets that play music, baseball caps with cameras to a solar-powered backpack.
