Capturing Cali Vibes with Kurupt and YG: Mark Peaced, Digging Through The Greats
Each week, Green Label invites a visionary photographer, filmmaker, designer or artist to dig through their folios and tell the story of their favorite works. This is: Mark Peaced.
I'm Mark Anthony Pangilinan, also known as MarkP or Mark Peaced. I'm a photographer from Los Angeles, California. I shoot a range of subjects, but portraits are my forte. Back in 1995 I was introduced to photography at a young age by my mother, and her boyfriend at the time was a photographer/videographer. so I picked it up by default. I didn’t start taking it seriously until 2010. A lot of my friends are musicians and artists themselves, so I thought it would be great to capture those candid and significant moments in their careers, and from there, it became something I wanted to do for a living.
Photography has opened many doors for me, for sure. It has taken me to places I wouldn’t think of going if it wasn't for shooting there. Photography opened me up to a lot, especially mentally, it caused me to see and think differently. I get a lot of joy out of shooting.
I’m inspired by daily life, the way people live, and how people carry themselves in the streets; people are different all around, that alone inspires me. Film over digital, I've started shooting film, and that's always been my way. I actually just started shooting digital. For me, film has something that digital can’t capture, there's something missing when shooting digital. Film has its own character. Not every shot will be the same; colors, light leaks, and grains are surprising elements I enjoy when shooting with film.Click to start the list
