8. Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloon

In 2012, KAWS became one of five living artists to have a balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. His grayscale “Companion” balloon at floated above New York City at a gigantic 40-feet tall along the parade route. Prior to the parade, KAWS also worked with the MTA to design the three-car Shuttle train between Grand Central Station and Times Square in celebration of the event. Wrapped both inside and out, the train was completely designed with the artist’s illustrations on the seats, walls and doors. After growing up watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade on television, KAWS called the opportunity to have “Companion” participate in the parade “priceless.”
