Check Out the Eclectic Vault by Vans X Takashi Murakami Collection
Vans is partnering with acclaimed Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami for a diverse collection under Vans’ premium label, Vault by Vans. Praised for his vibrant paintings as well as his pristine sculptures and designs, Murakami re-creates his favorite Vans silhouette, the Classic Slip-On–which happens to be the style he wears to the studio every day–for this Vault by Vans x Takashi Murakami collaboration.
Murakami’s style is famous for its anime heavy inclusion of bright colors, shapes, and imagery inspired by traditional Japanese art and popular culture, now called the “Superflat” form (a term the 53-year-old made-up himself). For Fall 2015, Murakami’s “smiling flower” and skull patterns are placed on a limited edition selection of Slip-Ons, tees and skateboard decks.
The Slip-Ons come in six adult-unisex colorways, as well as a trio of toddler-sized offerings. Half of the adult assortment showcases the “smiling flower” print in blue, multi-colored, and silver line variations, while the other half has a skull print in a darker blue, yellow and gold line color-ups. The toddler-sized shoes are stylized in more subdued colors and feature a single image as opposed to an all-over print. Just to add a little more personality to the shoes, Murakami’s dog, Pom, is on the footbed of each Slip-On atop the Vans skateboarding logo.
The Vault by Vans x Takashi Murakami collaboration also includes three shirts and skate decks. The shirts highlight the “smiling flower” print in a multicolored collage, the “skull” in an all over silver outline, and Murakami sitting atop both prints on a blue background. The decks feature the same patterns on their underside and Pom on the topside.
