9. Sony PlayStation 1995
Ever heard the phrase, “I’ve created a monster”? Nintendo certainly has. You see, back when Nintendo was first looking to make the jump into CD-based gaming with the SNES, they went to the CD experts: Sony. The two companies made a deal that Sony would develop a CD add-on for the SNES, but disagreement over property rights led to a falling out. Nintendo tried and failed to keep Sony from doing anything with its “Play Station” project. Sony eventually won the case, and redefined the industry in the process.
