The Complete History of Paul Rodriguez's Signature Nike SB Sneakers
Just as Paul Rodriguez has evolved as a skater over the past decade, so has his signature shoe line with Nike. After turning pro at the tender age of 16 and winning his first X Games gold medal by 19-years-old, it didn’t take long for P-Rod’s potential as a highly marketable skater to shine through. Following a brief stint with the now-defunct eS, Rodriguez turned to Nike to elevate his reach amongst the masses. With all due respect to Michael Jordan, when it comes down to it, Paul Rodriguez is to skateboarding what MJ is to basketball. What we mean by that is that he helped resurrect Nike SB and take it to new heights as a skate brand much in the same way MJ changed the sneaker game in the basketball world.
Just as His Airness became the first modern African-American basketball player to earn his own signature shoe from Nike, with the release of the Zoom Air Paul Rodriguez in 2005, P-Rod became the first Mexican-American to accomplish the same feat. In fact, he’s even the first skater ever to be sponsored with a namesake signature by the Swoosh. With the latest installment of the Paul Rodriguez signature expected to make its debut sometime this year, we took a look back into the archives to see how the series has evolved over the years.Click to start the list
