The Rookie Photographer Who’s Already Shot Kanye West and Andre 3000: Dan Garcia, Digging Through the Greats
Each week, Green Label invites a visionary photographer, filmmaker, designer or artist to dig through their folios and tell the story of their favorite works. This is: Dan Garcia.
It’s not even that I’m into photography, it’s more that I’m into the things that I’m taking pictures of. It started at Lollapalooza. I wanted to go, but I didn’t want to pay for tickets. So I took photos at the Yeezus tour and shot them around the different blogs to portray myself as more of a serious photographer than I really was. A few sites got back to me, including Pigeons and Planes, who told me I could take photos at Lolla for them. I ended up getting photo passes, and, actually, in the photo pits at Lollapalooza was the first time I held a DSLR camera. It was an overwhelming experience.
So many shows and festivals I’ve gotten into should have been impossible, but they all somehow happened. It’s so important to be persistent and keep trying to create opportunities.Click to start the list
