Henk Hofstra - “Art Eggcident”
This humorous — and huge — installation in the Netherlands was created to make the main square of Leeuwarden a little more interesting, and it succeeded. For Henk Hofstra’s “Art Eggcident,” he created eight giant sunny-side up eggs that were 328 feet in diameter with yokes that were about 25 feet wide across the square, appearing as though it was a giant frying pan. The whites of the eggs were spray painted onto the street, while the yellow yolks were raised like domes. The installation was met with mixed reviews from residents at first, but eventually it grew on people.
