9. Jay Z
While The Notorious B.I.G. was New York’s biggest personality in hip-hop’s immediate domain, Jay Z was, and still is today, New York’s hip-hop’s most famous ambassador. Even the sweet older lady on the subway knows who Jay Z is. He’s released platinum albums, had number-one singles and collaborated with some of the biggest names in history. Along with a handful of other artists, Hov has been one of the major forces to take hip-hop into the mainstream, and make the culture a force to be reckoned with throughout the world.
