Nike Drops Its Snowboarding Category
We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but according to a report in the Oregonian, Nike plans to drop its snowboarding category, shifting its focus to skateboarding.
Though it’s a disappointment for Nike boarders, the move makes financial sense for the brand. In 2013, Nike brought in around $738 million in its action sports division (they had $4.6 billion in running sales and $3.1 billion in basketball sales), with snowboarding being held accountable for only a small fraction of that. And with snowboarding mega-companies like Burton having a reigning influence, it was only a matter of time before Nike got booted (no pun intended).
The current Holiday ’14 collection will be the last of Nike’s snowboarding gear available at retail.
