Nike SB Celebrates 10 Years of P-Rod With Re-Release of First Signature Shoe
Dew team captain Paul Rodriguez, and fans of his Nike pro models, will be jumping (or popping ollies) for joy this weekend. Celebrating 10 years with Nike SB, the athletic apparel giant’s skateboard division will be releasing the first iteration of P-Rod's iconic signature shoe this weekend.
Ten years ago, Rodriguez had a crazy year. In 2005 he took X Games gold, dropped the Forecast video, and threw on the hat of the new wave of Nike SB when it needed his credibility the most. Prior to Paul’s sig shoe, Nike dropped a raft of coveted colorways of their Dunk model, with designs commissioned from some of art, music, and streetwear’s greatest.
With Paul’s shoe we saw those artists try their hand at getting up on one of, at the time, skateboarding’s most progressive shoes.
Coming in the classic “true white/light grey zen-black” colorway, this new shoe matches leather with mesh for durability and breathability. In addition Nike has gone for the retro Zoom Air cushioning instead of Nike's more modern Lunarlon (the P-Rod was first released with Zoom Air).
Also featured is the PR insignia, in the form of quilted detailing along the reinforced midfoot and heel panels, with Nike hits on the heel and tongue.
If you think these are a bit too retro you might be the only one. Paul has been rocking the shoe consistently in anticipation of the release. You can grab your pair at 10AM EST on 03/14 on Nike.com.
