8. A League of Their Own - $107,533,928
In 1992, there was a primetime TV documentary called Diamonds on the Silver Screen that was about movies about baseball. In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, Americans were really into baseball movies. From 1988 to 1994, we saw the release of Bull Durham, Major League, Field of Dreams, The Sandlot, Rookie of the Year, Angels in the Outfield and Little Big League, among others, so it makes sense that the highest-grossing baseball movie of all time, A League of Their Own, was released in 1992, our year of peak baseball. The fact that it starred Tom Hanks and Geena Davis, who was just coming off of Thelma and Louise, probably helped moviegoers into the theaters to watch this fun period movie about sisterhood.
