Paul Rodriguez Advances in BATB 8 Tournament
March is a month dominated by brackets, and now thanks to The Berrics skate-hounds can get in on the fun as well.
Now in its eighth year, the Battle At The Berrics tournament features DEW Team riders Sean Malto and P-Rod, along with a gang of skate’s newest and most seasoned. BATB8 will feature a large number of returning pros, amateurs or joes from the “Pros vs. Joes” iteration of the tournament, and finalists from the 2014 amateur tournament “Battle for Aberrica.”
P-Rod’s first round match pitted him against Spencer Brown, one of last year’s Aberrica. Kitted out with one of his trademark Primitive gold decks, Paul embarked on a pretty epic battle with newcomer Spencer Brown.
Losing the match-opening roshambo duel, Paul took a back seat as Brown laid down a heavy bag of tricks. The two went trick-for-trick as Brown set the mark high with a bevy of nollie and switch variations.
It almost looked as if Paul was going to see defeat—until Brown lost his footing on an attempted nollie backside 180 heelflip. As the old adage goes, “the rest was history.”
Paul was able to gain the upper hand on Brown by laying down some flatground staples, taking him to his final letter in their game of s-k-a-t-e.
For the last few years, Paul has been perfecting a go-to move that he pulled out to seal the deal. To see what it was, check out the first round battle in the video player above.
