Ai Weiwei - “Forever Bicycles”
You’re probably familiar with Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei whose recent traveling exhibition According to What? was showcased all over the country with its final stop at the Brooklyn Museum. After he created his first “Forever Bicycles” sculpture in the Taipei Fine Arts Museum made from 1,000 bicycles in 2011, he turned things up a notch for his new and bigger version of the installation in Toronto, in which he used 3,144 connected bikes. The 30-foot high and 100 feet wide sculpture was exhibited in 2013, and was lit with different colored lights at night to even further enhance the sculpture, create a mesmerizing effect.
