Here’s Footage of a Record-Breaking Hoverboard Journey
It’s 2015, and if you remember those old school cartoons that speculated on all the cool technology we’d be making use of by now then you know we’re a bit ahead of the curve. We’re not living like the Jetsons in towering high-rise homes just yet, but we do have things like self-driving cars and levitating light bulbs in the works. While those are pretty chill there’s one thing that we’ve all been pining for and that’s a levitating skateboard.
The best manifestation of the concept can definitely be seen in Back to the Future II, but recently Arx Pax made the dream a reality with their Hendo hoverboard. They even got Tony Hawk to give it a whirl leaving us all hyped with anticipation at what will come next.
Now we won’t have to wait much longer, since Canadian inventor Catalin Alexandru Duru has created his own version of the hoverboard. This one is a step above Arx Pax’s Hendo and has even earned Duru a Guinness World Record.
Duru’s propelle- based model is more like something out of Marvel Comics’ Spiderman, drawing comparisons to the Green Goblin’s glider. He earned the record by traveling a distance of 905 feet and flying at a height of about 16 feet.
In the footage above you’ll be able to see his entire record-breaking flight over Lake Ouareau in Quebec, Canada.
Duru took a year to finish off the hoverboard and notes that it can be used on various terrains and can reach heights exceeding what you’ll see in Guinness’ video.
Noting that this isn’t all for the glory, Duru is looking towards the future of transportation with his invention, “I wanted to showcase that a stable flight can be achieved on a hoverboard and a human could stand and control with their feet.”
