Moe Tucker

Best known for having been the drummer of the Velvet Underground, Maureen “Moe” Tucker is a trailblazer for female rockers. Her unconventional and simplistic style involved a kit of Tom Toms and an upturned bass drum, and she often played standing up with mallets rather than drumsticks. After leaving the band in 1971, she drummed for several smaller-scale groups, toured Europe with Half Japanese, and played a handful of gigs with Lou Reed and John Cale.
