Gwen Stacy - Girlfriend of Peter Parker/Spider-Man
First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #31 (December 1965)
Peter Parker has 99 problems, and the women in his life are at least 90 of those problems. Although Gwen Stacy’s fate is almost always tragic, Peter Parker’s first love and her devastating end, help shape the hero into the compassionate crime-fighter we’ve grown to love. Peter and Gwen’s relationship wasn’t without its bumps, though. Like Mary Jane Watson, Gwen Stacy is at one point also romantically linked to Flash Thompson and Harry Osborn.
Coolest Version of the Character:
On the big screen, Gwen Stacy has been portrayed by two equally ravishing actresses, Bryce Dallas Howard in Spider-Man 3 and Emma Stone in The Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2. Stone landed the part of Gwen in the Marc Webb-directed reboot while filming the movie The Help, which co-starred Howard. “She's like Gwen Stacy 2.0! Faster, funnier, sexier - like more awesome! She's gonna kill it. She's going to be amazing,” Howard told Access Hollywood. “[Emma is] so bright and so hilarious and has so much joie de vie, and Gwen really embodies that. She's just perfect.” Stone’s tremendous performance and her undeniable chemistry with Andrew Garfield, on and off screen, did indeed make her the perfect Gwen Stacy. Although, to be fair, Howard got short-changed in Spider-Man 3 with Gwen merely being used by “Emo” Peter Parker to make Mary Jane jealous.
Versions You Might Not Want to Date:
Villains in the Marvel universe have a nasty habit of having babies with Gwen Stacy. In Amazing Spider-Man #144 (May 1975), The Jackal clones the late Gwen Stacy and has babies with the clone. In the Sins Past story arc of The Amazing Spider-Man #509-514, it’s revealed that Gwen had a relationship with Norman Osborn and gave birth to twins. Osborn’s enhanced blood is passed to his children, and they grow into adults in the span of only a few years. Under the belief that Peter is their real father and had hurt their mother, the twins attacked Spider-Man. Now that’s some serious superpowered baby mama drama.
