Sharon Carter/Agent 13 - Girlfriend of Steve Rogers/Captain America
First Appearance: Tales of Suspense #75 (March 1966)
Originally the younger sister of Peggy Carter, but later retconned as her niece, Sharon Carter is the on-again, off-again girlfriend of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. As a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Sharon frequently crosses paths with the revived Steve Rogers and eventually joins him on missions against HYDRA, A.I.M., and other nefarious organizations. It is on these missions that their romance blossoms. Sharon obviously isn’t just a pretty face. At one point in the comics, she takes over as S.H.I.E.L.D. director, and she’s always able to hold her own on missions alongside Captain America.
Coolest Version of the Character:
In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Sharon Carter isn’t just able to keep up with the Super Soldier, but she’s been assigned to protect him. While the character, played by Emily VanCamp, and her relationship with Steve Rogers has yet to be fully realized in the Marvel Cinematic universe, she made a strong impression as the undercover S.H.I.E.L.D. operative, codenamed Agent 13. She also gives one of the best and quotable lines from the movie: “Captain’s orders.”
Version You Might Not Want to Date:
In Captain America #25 (2007) Sharon Carter is brainwashed to assassinate Captain America. Rogers is first sniped by Crossbones and then taken down by Carter, unaware of her own actions, several times at point blank range. Worst. Date. Ever.
