Virginia "Pepper" Potts - Girlfriend of Tony Stark/Iron Man
First Appearance: Tales of Suspense #45 (September 1963)
Pepper Potts was first introduced as a member of the secretarial pool at Stark Industries. She soon becomes Tony Stark's personal assistant. Potts, Stark and Stark's driver, Happy Hogan, are caught up in a love triangle throughout the comics. Artist Don Heck modeled Pepper after the character of Schultzy from 1950s sitcom The Bob Cummings Show. Schultzy was played by the late Ann B. Davis, known to most as the housekeeper Alice on The Brady Bunch.
Coolest Version of the Character:
Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts in the Marvel films is the glue that holds Tony Stark together. She can easily put the eccentric billionaire in his place, but also brings out the best in him. She’s willing to risk everything for him, and he’s willing to give everything to her. Later in the comics, Pepper also eventually armors up with some life-saving mechanical enhancements of her own, much like Tony Stark needed, and in the films, she gets some legitimate superpowers like when she saved the day in Iron Man 3. In the comics, she does not have superpowers, but she becomes the team leader of the superhero team, the Order.
Version You Might Not Want to Date:
The film version of Pepper Potts is one of the only versions of the character who hasn’t ended up marrying Happy Hogan. So unless you’re an ex-boxer turned chauffeur, you probably don’t have a chance with Pepper, even if you’re a billionaire.
