Pearl Jam – 1996 Grammys

Eddie Vedder’s introductory words were, “We just came to watch the show,” as Pearl Jam accepted the award for Best Hard Rock Performance during the 1996 Grammys. After the band nonchalantly strolled on stage, Vedder went on to famously say, “I don’t know what this means. I don’t think it means anything,” which received nervous and awkward chuckles from the audience. The rest of the speech was fleshed out by the obviously unplanned words from the other members. Probably the most low-key line from the acceptance was when Vedder shrugged and mumbled, “Thanks, I guess.”
