9. Cut-down High Tops

By the early ‘90s, it was apparent that the bulky shoes of the late ‘80s weren’t going to cut it for street skating. But before Airwalk, Vans, and Etnies could produce low-tops, skaters in San Francisco took scissors and duct tape to their shoes, spurring a trend that left any parent who’d just bought his kid a pair of expensive new sneakers aghast.
