A different take on Southern hip-hop, Little Brother showed an appreciation for legends to come before them, many of whom were from the East Coast. With their sophomore LP The Minstrel Show, emcees Phonte and Big Pooh — along with their producer 9th Wonder — changed the general perception of North Carolina, a state most associated with Petey Pablo at the time. Their music was known for being fun with edgy battle raps and the album covering more serious topics such as responsible fatherhood.
