Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Is Coming Out This Year
The first Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was easily the most influential game in my life, from the music to the clothes to the skateboarding. Considering the Internet blew up after the announcement of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 earlier this week, I’m not the only one whose life has been affected by the skating game.
In an interview with E3’s Geoff Keighley, Tony Hawk spoke about the game’s new features, the soundtrack, and the gameplay. According to Mr. Hawk, the coolest feature will be the online mode, which boasts up to 20 skaters at once. Also, you’ll be able to set things on fire with your skateboard. I’m not sure this serves any purpose in story mode, but it will definitely look pretty gnarly.
Tony Hawk says he kept it simple when it came to the gameplay. A lot of the controls are the exact same as previous games because people are used to them, and there are even a few of the original skateparks. While the franchise has grown tremendously, Tony Hawk doesn’t want to switch-up the style too much and lose some of his core fans.
As far as the soundtrack, Hawk is tight-lipped. He does divulge one song, though: Plague Vendor’s “Black Sap Scriptures.” He also promises it will cover several genres while sticking to skate culture. He definitely recognizes the importance of the soundtracking, stating, “There’s almost as much expectation on the soundtrack as there is the gameplay.” If you’ve been playing the game since its inception in 1999, you know that’s the truth.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 has a heavy burden on its shoulders, though. The series’ last three games have come out to poor reviews from fans and critics alike. Furthermore, this game is the return to the original “Pro Skater” franchise, and it needs to be as captivating as the previous four were.
Although there is no release date yet, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 5 will definitely be out on PS4 and Xbox One later this year. Hopefully this game will be a return to glory for Tony Hawk and the franchise.
