Victor Michael Tours with Run the Jewels and Explores Abandoned Places: Digging Through the Greats
I went to China for three months a few years ago, and one of my friends told me to buy a camera and come take some pictures. I was doing computer work before I went, and after I came back, I was like, I’m gonna stop doing that, and I started doing photography.
I love traveling. I feel more comfortable out on the road and in different places than at home in New York. I think Detroit is my favorite place I’ve been. Nobody thinks of Detroit as that cool, but as far as photography goes, Detroit is, like, the capital of abandoned places. There’s something about Detroit that makes me feel all warm inside.
The coolest abandoned place I’ve been to is probably Six Flags in New Orleans. I climbed the tallest roller coaster. It was crazy.
Just shoot. Shoot whatever you want to. Don’t let people talk badly about your photos. If that’s your style and that’s what you want to do, stick with it. Don’t let anyone tell you different.
