8. Vik Muniz: Poetics of Perception
Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art
Brazilian artist Vik Muniz is known for his use of unusual materials to create art like toys, diamonds, soil, chocolate sauce, industrial waste and shredded paper. In his first solo show in Virginia, Muniz will exhibit his photographs that preserve and capture the sculptural pieces he creates. His feature length documentary Waste Land, which tells the story of the artist traveling from his home base in Brooklyn to the world’s largest garbage dump in his native country Brazil to meet the people who frequent the area to pick out recyclable materials, will also be screened as part of the exhibit. Make sure to get to this one before the end of the month since it closes on April 27.
