5. Continental Club
Continental Club is one of the best (and, uh, only) midsize venues in Houston. The original Continental Club opened in Austin and housed soon-to-be superstars such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Joe Ely.
The Houston edition opened in the early 2000s and architecturally sticks to the ’50s-inspired decor of the original. There's a big stage in a big room — clearly solidifying it as a tried and true rock club. What makes Continental Club interesting is that it resides on Main Street, in between smaller venues that have come up in recent years. The bands that play in these smaller clubs have started to move into the Continental Club, which has provided it with a wider variety of acts. At the end of the day, Continental Club specializes in putting on rock and roll shows with electric guitars and lead vocals.
