1. Sam Goody
Remember the days when the phrase “Goody got it” actually had significant meaning in your life? At one point, Sam Goody was the go-to spot for CDs, electronics and even that DMX poster that made you feel like a Ruff Ryder affiliate. The brand started off as a small record store launched by Sam Gutowitz, who also went by the nickname “Goody.” From the 1950s up into the mid 2000s, Sam Goody helped bring in $2 billion in revenue at its peak for music retailer The Musicland Group. Unfortunately, with the monopolizing effect of electronics giant Best Buy — and Musicland Group eventually filing for bankruptcy in 2006 — Goody got got, and ended up converting into f.y.e. Hopefully they don’t face the same fate.
