4. Big Apple Barbecue Block Party - June 7-8
New Yorkers don’t like being second best at anything, and recently they’ve been shooting for top-notch BBQ with a number of new slow-and-low pork and beef-worshipping restaurants opening up in the past year or two. So what happens when other places not even geographically close to NYC are known to be the kings of barbecue? You fly them in to the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party in Madison Square Park in Manhattan. This July, 17 acclaimed pitmasters from around the country are converging to serve up their famous barbecue and southern style dishes. With free entry and only nine bucks a plate, that isn’t bad at all.
