38. Pennsylvania: Nocturnal
Kerry Getz got fame as a pro skater and put it back into the Philadelphia scene in the form of his shop, Nocturnal. Since 2000, Nocturnal has been the Philly skate shop, holding it down on South Street and hosting demos and signings, sponsoring local rippers, and advocating and fundraising for more skateparks. Miki Vuckovich of the Tony Hawk Foundation said Nocturnal “jumped in when then-Mayor, Street, was trying to clamp down on LOVE Park. They helped push the scene that’s given us the Paine’s Park Skate Plaza, among other things.” Getz and Nocturnal have done a lot for good for the scene and the shop carries all the right goods from local to international brands.
