Flea

Remember in the intro, when we said bassists were often overlooked, relegated to the shadows of the stage? Flea is the exception to that rule. As the bass player for the legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers for nearly two decades now, he's not only popularized his trademark slap-bass style, but he's also been absolutely impossible to ignore, playing his instrument with a furious energy and style usually reserved for the flashiest of lead guitarists.

RHCP always blended a huge variety of genres into their music from hip-hop to punk rock and everywhere in between, and it's always been Flea’s basslines providing the group’s sound with a stable and propulsive bassline. While Flea's onstage antics may sometimes steal the spotlight, don't sleep on the man's musical chops. Any true bass player knows what a master technician the man is.
