Lupe Fiasco – “Kick, Push”
Despite being a song that helped thrust Lupe Fiasco into the national hip-hop spotlight, “Kick, Push” was also a source of heavy controversy for the Chicago-born rapper. What was intended to be a tribute to skate culture, telling the story of a young skater and his love interest, was perceived by many in the skateboarding community as an attempt to infringe on their territory. "It was never supposed to be a single,” Lupe told SKEE Live in a recent interview. “It was for a skate shop called Uprise for a skate DVD and then it just took a life of its own.” Just “a rebel to the world with no place to go,” Lupe kicked and pushed his way past the haters and did his thing. Word on the street is that he even has a new album coming out in the near future. Here’s to hoping for more skate mentions from the Chicago native.
