J. Cole – Born Sinner
The biggest “clap for him” moment when it comes to J. Cole’s sophomore hit, Born Sinner, is the fact that he produced majority of the album himself. Dope verses and slick one-liners are expected from a rapper under Jay Z’s wing, but knowing how to properly sample Outkast (“LAnd Of The Snakes”) and A Tribe Called Quest (“Forbidden Fruit”) without coming off as corny or underwhelming is a great feat for the kid. The lane he’s creating for himself as a legit rapper/producer makes him so much more than those cliché Nas comparisons. We definitely respect it.
